Palestinian Heritage Center – Embroidery, Memory, and Identity

The Palestinian Heritage Center preserves embroidery, costumes, and folk traditions, offering visitors a vibrant window into Palestinian identity.

Overview

Founded in 1991 by Maha Saca, the Palestinian Heritage Center in Bethlehem is dedicated to preserving and promoting Palestine’s rich traditions of embroidery, dress, and folk heritage. The center houses a remarkable collection of traditional costumes (thobes), textiles, jewelry, and household items from different regions of Palestine, making it both a museum and a cultural archive.

In addition to exhibitions, the center works to safeguard oral history, memory, and community practices that are at risk of being lost. It has become a vital space where the past and present meet, ensuring that Palestinian identity is passed on to future generations.

Cultural and Community Role

The Palestinian Heritage Center is a guardian of cultural memory. By collecting, preserving, and presenting folk traditions, it strengthens Palestinian identity and gives voice to women’s roles in cultural heritage.

For the community, it provides employment opportunities and a sense of pride. For visitors, it offers an intimate and authentic window into Palestinian life, traditions, and resilience.
