Cremisan Monastery & Winery
Set in Beit Jala’s hills, Cremisan Monastery blends devotion with vineyards, offering faith, culture, and Palestine’s renowned wines.
Overview
On the western hills of Beit Jala, the Cremisan Monastery was established in the 19th century by the Salesian order. Surrounded by pine forests, vineyards, and olive groves, the monastery is a place of prayer, learning, and agricultural tradition. It is best known internationally for the Cremisan Winery, which has produced wine since the late 1800s and continues to operate today, blending faith and heritage with modern production.
The monastery and winery are symbols of endurance in the face of challenges, as the surrounding land has faced threats from settlement expansion. Despite this, Cremisan remains a place where locals and visitors gather to celebrate community life, enjoy the fruits of the land, and experience the connection between spirituality and daily sustenance.

Spiritual & Cultural Significance
Spiritually, the monastery serves as a seminary and religious house for the Salesians, whose mission focuses on education, youth, and service. Culturally, it represents the integration of Palestinian agricultural life with Christian traditions, producing wines that are exported worldwide while remaining deeply tied to the local soil.
For visitors, Cremisan offers a unique experience that unites prayer, history, and hospitality. Whether attending mass, walking vineyard trails, or sampling Cremisan wines, one encounters a community where faith and daily life are inseparable.
