Dheisheh Refugee Camp was established in 1949 within the municipal boundaries of Bethlehem on 0.31 square kilometers of land. It is the largest refugee camp in Bethlehem and is currently home to more than 16,000 Palestinian refugees, who are descendants of those who fled from 45 villages in the western Jerusalem and western Hebron areas. In the camp there is only one food distribution center, two schools, and one UNRWA health center.
