Virgin Mary's Well - Beit Sahour - According to belief, the Holy Family passed next to the well on their way to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). The well was so deep, it was impossible to draw water without a bucket. The Virgin Mary asked a woman who was filling her bucket if she could have some water to drink, however the woman refused to help. Then Mary said: "O well rise and rise … so that I drink from you and leave," causing a miracle. Since that day, there is always water in the well and always at the same level, although people drink from it almost every day.

There was an Orthodox Church built on the site in 1969, the year in which a Greek woman was said to have recovered from a serious illness after drinking water from the well.
