Meet the diverse citizens of Jerusalem’s Old City and learn about Jerusalem’s minorities such as Copts, Armenians, Africans, Afghans, Gypsies and Indians.Understand the Cultural Background of Jerusalem. Get to know the historical development of education in Jerusalem over the centuries, especially throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, where educational development was at its peak.
Start the day entering the Old City through Herod’s Gate (Al-Sahira Gate). Our first stop will be the Indian Corner and a visit to the Palestinian Indian community of Jerusalem, where we will see their old guesthouse and beautiful Mamluk period construction.
– From there we continue towards the Afghani Community and see the Sufi Mosque of the Afghanis which is one of the many Sufi landmarks inside the Old City.
– We then stop by the African Community and have a nice coffee break at the Saaleek Café which dates back to the Crusader period and was once used as the headquarters of the Templars. Within the area we will pass by the ancient Water Sabeels which used to carry water into the Old City, before continuing the visit with the Coptic Community,
– Before exiting the Muslim Quarter, we will learn about the Islamic Quarter in general and the Haram Al-Shareef and Dome of the Rock in particular.
– A final attraction inside the Muslim Quarter will be short stops at some of the Old Schools (Madaares) within the area to learn about the educational systems between the 14th and 16th centuries.
– From here we continue into Khan Al-Zeit market (Souq) which is one of the ancient markets in the Old City (also known as the Cardo Maximus of Hedrion).
– Then we continue towards the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and walk along part of the Way of Sorrows (Via Dolorosa) visiting the last seven Stations of the Cross.

Getting to Jerusalem
Bethlehem to Jerusalem:
Option 1 – From Checkpoint 300 (Rachel Tomb crossing): You will have to cross the checkpoint on foot and once outside, take bus no.324 to Jerusalem. The trip costs around 5 ILS and runs directly from the checkpoint to the Damascus Gate Station in East Jerusalem (Located on Sultan Suleiman Street).Duration Approx 30 minutes.
Option 2 – Bus no 321 From Bab el Zqaq intersection: The bus no.321 from Bab el –Zqaq (intersection Beit Jala and Hebron-Jerusalem road) to the Damasuc Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (Located on Sultan Suleiman Street). Cost around 7 ILS . Duration: Approx 45 minutes.
Option 3 – Private Taxi: A private taxi from Bethlehem to Jerusalem costs around 150 ILS ($40). Duration: Approx 30 minutes.
Hebron to Jerusalem – Via Bethlehem
Option 1 – Shared Taxi to Bethlehem (Bab el-Zqaq Intersection): Take a shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) from the Hebron Central Bus Station (located on Wadi Al Tufah Street) to the Bab El-Zqaq intersection in Bethlehem. Price around 10 ILS. Duration: Approx. 30-45 minutes.
From the Bab el Zqaq intersection, take bus no.321 from Bab el –Zqaq (intersection Beit Jala and Hebron-Jerusalem road) to the Damasuc Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (Located on Sultan Suleiman Street). Cost around 7 ILS . Duration: Approx 45 minutes.

Ramallah to Jerusalem :
Option 1 – Bus no. 218: The bus departs from the Central Bus Station in Ramallah (Located on Al Nahda Street) and ends at the Damascus Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street). Tickets cost around 8 ILS. Duration: approx. 30-45 minutes.
Option 2 – Private Taxi to Jerusalem: A private taxi from Jerusalem to Ramallah will cost around 200 ILS ($55). Duration: approx. 30 minutes
Jericho to Jerusalem:
Option 1-Shared taxi to connect with bus no.263: Take a shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) from Jericho City Center to Bethany. Inform the driver that you need to connect with bus number 263 to Jerusalem. Tickets cost 12-15 ILS. The drive to Bethany takes around 30-40 minutes and from there to Jerusalem around another 15-20 minutes. Bus number 263 stops at Damascus Gate station in Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street). Total Duration approx. 1 hour.
Option 2-via Bethlehem: Take a shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) from Jericho City Center to Bethlehem Central Station (located on Manger Square Street). From there connect to Jerusalem. Duration: approx 1 hours.
Option 3 – Private Taxi: A private taxi from Jericho to Jerusalem will cost around 370 ILS (approx $100). Duration: approx 30 minutes.
Nablus to Jerusalem – Via Ramallah:
From Nablus to Ramallah:
Option 1 – Shared Taxi: Take a shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) from Nablus Central Bus Station (located on Rafidiya Street) to Ramallah Central Bus Station (located on al Nahda Street). Leaving from Jerusalem
Jerusalem to Bethlehem:
Option 1 – Bus no. 231: The bus departs from the Damascus Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street) and travels via Beit Jala to Bethlehem. Tickets cost around 8 ILS. Duration: Approx. 30-40 minutes.
Note that this bus does not go through the main “checkpoint 300” (Rachel’s Tomb crossing). The bus will drop you off at the Bethlehem / Beit Jala intersection (“Bab el-Zkak”) which is 1 km away from Manger Square. You can easily follow the Pope Paul VI Street to get to the Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity in 15 minutes. You can also take a taxi to Manger Square. Price around 15-20 ILS per drive (not per person). A shared taxi is also available and cost around 3 ILS.
Option 2 – Bus no. 234: The bus leaves from the Damascus Gate Bus Station (located on Sultan Suleiman Street) and takes you directly to the Bethlehem Checkpoint – “checkpoint 300” (Rachel’s Tomb crossing) and back. Tickets cost around 5 ILS. Duration: Approx 20-30 minutes. You will have to walk through the checkpoint as you enter and exit Bethlehem. From the checkpoint, you can either walk half an hour or take a private taxi (15-20 ILS) to the center of Bethlehem (Manger Square), which is about 2.5 km away. A shared taxi is also available and cost around 3 ILS.
Option 3 – Private Taxi: A private taxi from Jerusalem to Bethlehem city center will cost around 150-180 ILS ($50) in each direction (up to 7 seats van). Duration: Approx. 20-30 minutes.
Option 4 – Private Taxi: A private taxi from Jerusalem to Bethlehem’s Rachel’s Tomb “checkpoint 300” will cost round 100-120 ILS ($30-35) and will drop you off outside of Bethlehem. You will then have to cross the checkpoint into Bethlehem on foot and continue from there (see option 1 or 2).
Jerusalem to Ramallah:
Option 1 – Bus no. 218: The bus departs from the Damascus Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street) and ends at the Ramallah Central Bus Station (Located on Al-Nahda Street). Tickets cost around 8 ILS. Duration: approx. 30 minutes.
Option 2 – Private Taxi to Ramallah: A private taxi from Jerusalem to Ramallah will cost around 180-200 ILS ($50). Duration: approx. 30 minutes
Option 3 – Private Taxi: Take a taxi to the Qalandia checkpoint and walk through on foot. from there you can either take a private taxi (yellow taxis) to Ramallah city center for 30-40 ILS. Alternatively, take a shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) to the Ramallah Central Bus Station (located on Al-Nahda Street). Duration: approx.20-30 minutes.
Jerusalem to Jericho
Option 1: Bus no 263: Take bus departs from the Damascus gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street). Inform the driver that you are continuing to Jericho and he will drop you off in Bethany City center ( Al Izrariya) . From there, take a Jericho shared taxi (orange mini bus for 7 persons) to the Jericho City Center. The cost for each ride is around 12-15 NIS.. Duration: Approx 60 minutes.
Option 2: Private Taxi: A private taxi from Jerusalem to Jericho will cost around 320 ILS ($85). Duration: Approx 30-45 minutes.
Jerusalem to Hebron Via Bethlehem
Option 1 – Bus no. 231: The bus departs from the Damascus Gate Bus Station in East Jerusalem (located on Sultan Suleiman Street) and travels via Beit Jala to Bethlehem. Tickets cost around 8 ILS. Duration: Approx. 30-40 minutes.
The bus will drop you off at the Bethlehem / Beit Jala intersection (“Bab el-Zkak”).
From there take a shared taxi to Hebron Central Station located on (located on Wadi Al Tufah Street). Cost around 10 ILS. Duration: approx 45 minutes.
