Where to go Guide
In 1962 Al Omari Mosque was built on the site of what was a municipal guesthouse, the maqam (shrine) of Ibrahim Khalil, and the hall of the Ramallah Youth Society. It has been said that the site of the Al Omari Mosque dates back to the time of Omar Bin Al Khattab, however no physical evidence exists to date how far back the site was used as a religious location.
In 1952, the old building was removed making way for the construction of the Mosque. The Mosque was built as three stories, the first consisting of the washrooms and prayer area for women, and the second and third as prayer areas for men. Standing on the west side of the Mosque is a 35 meter high minaret. The location also houses a new library.
