The walk begins at Nebi Musa, in the eastern Jerusalem Wilderness, which is said to be the last resting place of the Prophet Moses, and concludes at Mar Saba, the Greek Orthodox desert monastery. Mar Saba is among the most ancient and wondrous desert monasteries in the Holy Land. Women have not been allowed into Mar Saba for 15 centuries, and will have to admire the monastery from afar – over its exterior walls.
Without any shade, the strenuous walk, from the shrine of Nebi Musa to Mar Saba, will prove to be challenging, yet rewarding. This hike is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo, and who are afraid of heights.
Walking distance: 19.5 km
Walking time: 5 – 8 hours
